Alfalfa haylage in round bales: what it is
Alfalfa haylage is feed made from freshly cut, naturally wilted alfalfa grass that is rolled into a bale and wrapped in film. In the wrapping the grass keeps its nutrients, which is why haylage is used as a winter feed reserve.
The difference from hay is in packaging and moisture: hay is dry, while alfalfa haylage is stored in a film-wrapped bale. We grow the alfalfa for it on our own fields.
